Have you ever wondered about the immune boosting benefits of CBD? Our immune system plays an important role in our overall health, protecting our bodies from harmful infections and viruses. In an “normal” year, it is imperative that our immune system is functioning properly and in its best health so our bodies are not open to bacteria, viruses, and pathogens. Well, this clearly is not a “normal” year. With COVID-19 it is even more important that our immune system is in tip-top shape. So what can we do naturally to boost the health of our immune system?
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet with lots of fruit and vegetables.
  • Get good restorative sleep.
  • Exercise to improve mood, lower blood pressure and keep your weight under control.
  • Focus on positive thoughts, keeping anxiety and stress at a minimum
  • Take CBD – a natural contributor in keeping your immune system strong, proven by its abilities to help improve sleep patterns and reduce anxiety.

CANNABIDIOL (CBD) & OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Everyone has an Endocannabinoid System (ECS) – a system of physiology that is responsible for bringing homeostasis (balance) to our bodies. It consists of three parts: Endocannabinoids (produced internally), Endocannabinoid receptors and hydrolytic enzymes. You can read more about the ECS here or listen in on our podcast, Full Spectrum Living with CBD on our Podcast page. CBD, a phytocannabinoid found in non-intoxicating cannabis varieties, may help with immune system control, leading to better protection against viral infections. When fighting illnesses, the immune system causes an inflammatory response when attacking a virus – resulting in cold and flu-type symptoms. The body uses endocannabinoids to keep the immune response under control, but it doesn’t always fully control inflammation. CBD, with its bidirectional effects, provides the ECS with a boost and ensures the inflammatory response is kept under control.

CBD & SLEEP

There is a strong link between restorative sleep, which means enough sleep to get the body in fighting shape, and a healthy immune system. Sleep needs vary by person, but typically:
  • Adults need 7-8 hours a night.
  • Teens need 9-10 hours
  • School-aged kids need at least 10 hours
  • Preschoolers need 11-12 hours
  • Newborns need 16-18 hours
Improved sleep pattern is typically one of the first things our consumers report experiencing – and science corroborates. “Preliminary research into cannabis and insomnia suggests that cannabidiol (CBD) may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of insomnia.” Read more on this study here.

CBD, STRESS & ANXIETY

Stress plays a major role in your immune system, and can impact blood pressure, cholesterol levels, brain chemistry, blood sugar levels, and hormonal balance. Anxiety also has a complicated relationship with the immune system, where evidence shows that too much anxiety can actually weaken our immune system. Evidence points toward a calming effect for CBD in the central nervous system.” Read more on this study here.
