But before we get you started on your new routine, we want to provide you with the right information to get going. So, for the first-time CBD user (or even just a first-time Bluegrass Hemp Oil customer) here is the official rundown on why you should try CBD!
What Is CBD?
If you haven’t noticed, CBD is in everything now: you can find it in chewy gummies, sweet chocolates, sodas, breath sprays, perfumes, and even healing lip balms. This is probably because of the recent uproar surrounding CBD and its newfound legalization–sanctioned by the 2018 Farm Bill. In 2018, the federal Farm Bill released that CBD derived from hemp would be considered legal under federal and most state laws.
To put it in simplified terms, cannabis plant varieties can be divided into two sections: marijuana and hemp. In the eyes of the law in the United States, “any cannabis strain with more than a trace amount (0.3%) of THC is considered marijuana” and any cannabis strain containing less than 0.3% THC is classified as hemp. (Meyer & Pena, 2020, Saturday Evening Post). Therefore, CBD extracted from hemp plants (that meet the requirement of less than 0.3% of THC) can legally be cultivated, extracted, and produced to be sold for profit.
Here at Bluegrass Hemp Oil, though our products do align with the restrictions of the law, we advocate for the belief that this percentage is an unfair and inaccurate measure of plant differentiation. In fact, so long as there is a higher ratio of CBD than THC present in the plant at harvest time, it is genetically considered to be hemp. Likewise, if THC is the more predominant cannabinoid (compared to CBD) in a particular cannabis plant variety, it is considered to be marijuana.
Further popularization of this notorious plant has been partially in thanks to the lifted restrictions surrounding CBD’s legality, but also due to the multitude of recent studies and ongoing research that prove the many benefits of CBD when consumed regularly and safely.
A big part of CBD’s appeal lies in the fact that it’s non-addictive, and users can see healing benefits without the fear of experiencing the psychoactive effects commonly associated with the marijuana plant. Tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC, is CBD’s better-known sister cannabinoid–also found in cannabis plant varieties. THC is the compound found within cannabis that inhibits euphoric feelings of highs in users when consumed–it is this substance (THC) that lies at the root of the unsavory stereotype surrounding marijuana and it’s taboo branding.
CBD is a popular method of holistic medicine that has been used by humans for centuries. According to a journal on Cannabinoid Pharmacology by Roger Pertwee, “cannabis is one of the first plants to have been used as a medicine, for religious ceremonies and recreationally,” dating back to over five centuries ago. Pertwee claims that, more specified “research into the pharmacology of individual cannabinoids… began in the 1940s, several decades after the presence of a cannabinoid was first detected in cannabis…” (Pertwee, 2006).
A compound derived from the cannabis plant, CBD is one of the many cannabinoids found in both hemp and marijuana plant varieties. These cannabinoids found within the cannabis plant are the compounds which bind to the receptors in our endocannabinoid systems (a system already present within our bodies) helping to regulate normal bodily functions such as sleep, mood, appetite, and pain. Unlike its infamous cannabinoid sister, THC, CBD provides users with all of the desired therapeutic perks–without the dreaded high.
Why You Should Try CBD:
Advertised as such, CBD products have been proven to relieve anxiety, combat stress, alleviate pain and inflammation, reduce depression, and even help to regulate mood and sleep functionality. Though we recommend CBD to everyone for general bodily function upkeep, we understand that most people seek the help of CBD because of one particular issue plaguing their daily lives.
If it is stress or anxiety causing you to look toward CBD for help, you are not alone–an estimated 49% of CBD users use the supplement to combat their acute, onset, or even fleeting anxieties. One 2014 study demonstrated the effects of CBD on animal models to prove said cannabinoid’s ability to act as “an antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like compound” (de Mello Schier AR, et al. 2014).
Some people believe that CBD can sometimes have a sedating or relaxing effect after consumption, which is perfect for helping users fall asleep and stay asleep. Another 2019 study on cannabidiol’s abilities to relieve anxiety and improve sleep functionality showed promising results in patients after just one month. As one of the most studied plants in history, with an estimate of roughly 3.5 studies conducted on cannabis daily, there is no shortage of studies on CBD’s effects on anxiety.
We also recommend CBD as a treatment for physical ailments! CBD has been studied as a natural anti-inflammatory as well as a proven muscle relaxer, which means that a full spectrum CBD supplement could be beneficial to athletes post-workout or even to patients post-surgery. Many people who suffer from chronic arthritis turn to CBD, in both liquid extract and topical forms, to alleviate their painful symptoms of arthritis. And while we generally recommend taking your daily CBD supplement sublingually for maximum benefits, we also recognize the healing benefits of CBD topical products, as well.
CBD and skincare go hand-in-hand–if you won’t believe us, believe celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow who swear by their CBD skincare routines. And it’s legit! A well-known anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-anxiety, and immunosuppressive supplement, CBD has survived the trials and tribulations that come with its stereotypical association to marijuana. Routinely debunking the stigma that follows in its wake, CBD has proven (time and time again) its abilities to provide beneficial and therapeutic relief to users everywhere–without the psychoactive effects associated with THC use.
If you suffer from sleep deprivation, chronic or even minimal anxiety, daily stress, depression, appetite loss, or any physical pain related to a previous injury or surgery, CBD could be the right option for you!
Why You Should Try BHO:
Sure, we might have convinced you that incorporating a CBD routine into your daily life is the best choice for you, but what about finding the perfect brand of CBD–the brand you can trust?
When it comes to finding the right CBD product for you and your family, it’s important to ask the right questions. At Bluegrass Hemp Oil, we give you the right questions to ask, and provide you with the best answers!
The first question you should be asking of the company in which you are purchasing CBD from is “Who is growing your hemp?” It’s important to know where your product is coming from–we’re talking about the exact spot in which your bloom was harvested–straight from the ground! Our answer to this question is simple: we grow our own hemp right here in Kentucky! “As one of the first licensed growers of hemp in the nation, we have been cultivating our own hemp since 2014. Our plant genetics are known for high cannabinoid (CBD, CBG, etc) content and our use of traditional cannabis growing practices yields CBD-rich blooms, not fiber or seed. By having proprietary high-yield genetics, our products remain consistent. By growing for dense blooms (not fiber) we greatly reduce the potential of heavy metals and pesticides, a huge concern in the industry.” (Questions to Ask About CBD, Bluegrass Hemp Oil, 2020).

The next question you should be asking your CBD provider is “Who produces your extract, and with what extraction method?” If you browse our blog page, you will notice in a few of our discussions, we talk about the varying extraction methods that are commonly used to make CBD in the hemp industry. There is only one method, however, that we use here at Bluegrass Hemp Oil: a hydrocarbon extraction method. So, to answer your question, we produce our own extract right here at our Kentucky headquarters, using a safe and gentle hydrocarbon extraction method that produces a product free of bitter green plant material, solvents, or contaminants, while also managing to preserve the original cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids already present in the original bloom.
The next question you should be asking to ensure your CBD products are safe is “Is this product tested?” For us at BHO, our answer is yes (twice over!) We test our products both internally and independently through Trace Analytics lab in Spokane. With the use of our unique serial numbers (each individually assigned to one of our Genesis Blend bottles via printed label) each customer can trace their bottle back to the labs original assessment of its contents.
“Note: Asking only “Are your products lab tested?” and accepting a simple “Yes” would be an unfortunate mistake. Become familiar with lab basics and check them out yourself. Check for the date of the test. Identify which kind of test was done (potency, mycotoxins, solvents, etc.). Notice which columns are marked ND (not detected) versus NT (not tested). Look further into the LOD (Level of Detection) for any element you may be concerned with such as THC or pesticides. To learn more on this, check out episode 21 of BHO’s podcast Full-Spectrum Living with CBD.” (Questions to Ask About CBD, Bluegrass Hemp Oil, 2020).
You can trust the safety of our products and the guidance of our employees because Bluegrass Hemp Oil is vertically integrated, family owned, and family-oriented. BHO was founded back in 2014, not with the idea of profit in mind, but with the hope of finding a better way of life for one of our own: Colten Polyniak, son of founders Bill and Adriane Polyniak. In 2009, after suffering from recurring seizures almost daily, Colten was diagnosed with epilepsy. After trying every drug, every holistic method, and seeking the opinion of seemingly every doctor, the Polyniak’s turned to CBD in their search for a treatment to their son’s epilepsy. They were on a desperate search to find a better way of life for their child. After years of searching for the right answer for Colten, the Polyniaks found CBD–and haven’t looked back. You can read more about Colten’s story, and the origin of Bluegrass Hemp Oil here!
Dubbed ‘The Original CBD Company of Kentucky,’ we are proud to be the first CBD company in The Bluegrass State to be approved for the licensed cultivation, harvesting, production, and sale of CBD products. We take this honor seriously, only using our best sativa blooms to be put through our hydrocarbon extraction method. Because of this revolutionary method, we know for certain that our products are 100% full spectrum. This term, full spectrum, means that we don’t use nanotechnology to alter the makeup of our products. After undergoing our safe hydrocarbon extraction method, our products still contain all of the original cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes that were originally present in the plant at harvest time–so consumers are reaping all of the benefits that this therapeutic plant naturally provides! You can read more about the benefits of full spectrum CBD products in comparison to non-full spectrum CBD products on our blog page.

Why Our Customers Think You Should Try CBD:
Don’t believe our word, the word of well-educated scientists and their proven studies, or even the word of Gwyneth Paltrow? What about the word of some of our real Bluegrass Hemp Oil customers?
“Best hemp oil ever! It has totally revived my husband’s aches and pains! We will repurchase every time it’s empty! Buy some you will not be disappointed!”– Rosie
“BHO is the 3rd product I’ve tried for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Migraines. I was honestly getting discouraged because CBD seemed to be working for so many people, but I hadn’t felt any difference. When I took BHO Genesis Blend, I felt it working in the first two days. I have slept better at night and seem to have more energy during the day. Also, BHO tastes good! I’m excited about the cumulative effects of this product!” – Amy
“Works great to relieve MS associated pain! So glad I found something natural instead of having to use OTC or prescription meds.” – Robert
“I just picked up my second 4oz bottle today. I have seen a dramatic change in my sleep habits along with less anxiety issues. The CBD oil works for me.” – Troy
Our Final Thoughts:
Although some of our customers claim otherwise, CBD is not a substance that will take effect immediately after consuming your first serving. Our CBD supplement–or any good CBD supplement, for that matter–needs time to build within your system before you can truly see its many, beneficial effects. Some customers report seeing results anywhere from 3-6 weeks to 3-6 months. Everyone is different–literally. Each of our bodies (and endocannabinoid systems) have their own way of functioning, so the process can take longer for some than it does for others. So, please remember: consistency is key! We recommend starting with a 4oz Genesis Blend bottle, taking it twice, daily–consistently until the bottle has been depleted.
If you really take the time to do your research before purchasing a CBD product (as you should) then we promise you won’t find another CBD product on the market that can rival our own. We have spent years precisely cultivating the perfect CBD oil based on science. If you find one, please leave a comment below or send us a message so we can check it out!
As we mentioned before, cannabis is currently one of the most studied plants in history: on average, about 3.5 studies on cannabis are being conducted daily. And so long as science is still learning about this therapeutic and versatile plant, so are we! We vow to continue to do our research and change not only the information we share with you, but also our product based on new findings in science and proven experiments on various cannabinoids.
